The story of Tiger Woods is perhaps one of the most talked about at the end of 2009. And it will probably go a long way and will still be talked about on 2010. As you know, Woods is perhaps one of the most successful athletes of all time joining Michael Jordan (basketball) and Manny Pacquiao (boxing) as an all-time great. And fame wouldn’t be complete without money of course, it always goes hand-in-hand together all the time.
Money comes in when popularity arises, as endorsements usually follow most especially when people look at you as an icon. And we are not talking about a $1 dollar talent fee but a multi-million or even multi-billion dollar fee. Perhaps, Woods didn’t realize how closely relative personal life and financial life is, as with just one mistake, everything will be gone in just a split of a second – all sponsors would definitely withdraw most especially when the issue is all about moral standards and integrity. In essence, when you have a very successful personal life, a successful financial life would follow. And when one fails, everything else fails.
Truly, it happened to him when it was found out recently that he had an affair with several women. Sexual affair as the news claim it. Now it would be so ridiculous to see – a career and name that took more than a decade to build lose in just a split of a second. Accenture, Nike, and AT&T plus a host of other sponsors immediately withdrew.
If there is one important message this scandal would want to impart to athletes or all the very popular and famed people around. It must be not to waste those times it took them to build their name. They must protect their reputation and credibility no matter what and don’t be tempted by all of these luxuries in life.
But I guess no one has the right to judge Tiger. After all 2010 is the year of the Tiger and he is just a human being after all like all of us. After all like Kobe Bryant, like Michael Jordan, like Manny Pacquiao, like Magic Johnson whom many of us knew had several illicit affairs with women!
