The encouragement of brain drain in the United States must be scrapped but instead, the country should create a program to welcome funded start up entrepreneurs. While many other people consider migrating, you won’t hear about much of it when you bring up the topic about economic stimulus and job creation. If for one particular reason the topic arises, it is usually because somebody believes foreigner are taking jobs that are supposed to be for Americans.
The rules are simple. And we are talking about the creation of a Startup Founders Visa Program. How does this system in place work? Supposedly one has a great and amazing business idea and the desire to start up a company from scratch. Americans shall bring this people in their country and provide access to resources. By letting company founder, the U.S. would be bringing in risk takers who want to create jobs and potentially build the next technology giants such as Google, Cisco, and Microsoft.
Moreover, if we had this system in place, it would stem the tide of talented, tech savvy foreigners who are leaving the United States to seek fortunes in their home countries such as China, Philippines and India.
However, there might be some requirements for this to finally materialize. As the program would speak, it needs early investor backing. The program has been backed by some of the notable technology executives such as venture capitalist Brad Feld of Mobius Venture Capital and experts Eric Ries and Dave McClure.
As an illustration, there was this one talented engineer who is not of American citizen. He has a great idea for a new type of search engine and wants to start a company. Obviously, U.S. is a good place to do business where venture capital is mature, intellectual property laws are strong and the talent level is high. So a qualified American investor puts real money to it say $400,000 into the startup. Subsequently, the investor could nominate the potential founder for a Founders Visa while also making a formal commitment to fund his or her company.
This would obviously help as we see it most especially today entrepreneurs confidence level have gone down or at the very least are having a hard time recovering. So instead of laying off or cutting down expenditures, we will have time to speak about job creation again.
