Wi-Fi is Getting Easier

Imagine this scenario: After arriving home and turning on your personal computer, internet connectivity suddenly cuts. Most importantly, you have an important document that needs to be researched. Well, today, this scenario will no longer be happening as internet is getting easier. Wherever you go you can easily connect to Wi-Fi.

Recently, a consortium of major tech manufacturers such as Intel, Cisco and Apple is set to release a new technology called Wi-Fi Direct. This new technology gives wonders by turning a slew of gadgets into hotspots.

Where before you can enjoy the convenience by surfing into the web without cables by hooking up some devices that creates your own hotspot Wi-Fi zone, by mid-2010 that practice will be about to change.

Earlier October the Wi-Fi alliance has said that the new technology will effectively turn gadgets into mini access points. This in effect would create wireless connections with other Wi-Fi enabled gadgets. Moreover, it is even more powerful as it would reach connectivity even up to 300 feet far.

The new technology called Wi-Fi Direct would be expected to hit big in the market. For owners of existing Wi-Fi devices all they have to do is to download a software that will automatically upgrade to the new ones.

Although they are anticipating sales erosion – meaning, some of the internet connectivity products such as that of routers would be expected to decline. As you know Routers make up nearly $1 billion annual market so it might be a big headache to most tech companies. But on the other hand, it would drive Smartphone sales as most of the people now are using internet-enable phones.

So I guess a good strategy would be to replace one powerful product (router) to two powerful products (Smartphone, Wi-Fi direct) for companies to be able to survive the internet connectivity age.
